Conference 2023

The First Conference “Microplastics in Polymer Science” took place at the Novgorod State University named after Yaroslav the Wise on October 19-21, 2023.
This conference has become a platform for interdisciplinary communications on microplastic issues for scientists in Russia and other countries (Italy, Norway). The significance of the conference is also confirmed by the fact that it was supported by three major partners: the Ecology Fund of Rosselkhozbank, SIBUR Holding PJSC, Labconcept LLC, as well as the NovSU Advanced Engineering School.
The participants included more than 120 scientists and researchers from Russia and foreign countries – specialists in the field of ecology, biology, analytical chemistry, physics and polymer chemistry. The work at the conference was carried out within three separate sections. They discussed the interaction of microplastics with biological systems, methods for detecting and analyzing microplastics, its modeling, the life cycle of biodegradable polymers and other issues. In addition to plenary and oral presentations, a poster session was held, in which 38 reports were presented, reflecting the results of research work by more than 60 Russian scientists on the conference topic.
Thanks to the conference, Novgorod University became a center for discussion of microplastic research in polymer science. Experts believe that Novgorod University can not only be an excellent platform for this conference in the future, but also initiate its own research in this area.
