Dear colleagues and friends!

The issue of microplastics is one of the 21st century’s most serious “deferred” environmental problems. Increasing polymer production is leading to the appearance of an uncontrolled spread of polymer waste, which with its slow rate of decomposition is turning into a vast quantity of microscopic particles. The appearance of these particles poses a large number of interdisciplinary challenges relating to the detection, characterisation and study of the impact of microplastics on human health and the wider environment.

The significance of these studies at an international level is confirmed by Resolution 5/14 dated 2 March 2022 of the United Nations Environmental Assembly (UNEA) on the necessity to prevent plastics pollution and to conclude a legally binding international treaty in this area. The drafting of this agreement is taking place as part of the work of the Intergovernmental Committee, and is based on modern, scientifically proven data. However, polymer scientists have so far been less involved in resolving problems associated with microplastics.

This conference provides an opportunity for specialists from all related fields to take part in the discussion of a whole range of issues associated with microplastics.

The work of the conference’s scientific programme will be divided into five sections:
● Modelling in microplastic research
● Analysis and characterisation of microplastics
● Microplastics in environmental and earth sciences
● Microplastics in biology, pharmacology, and medicine
● Research and industrial strategies for the prevention and reduction of microplastics.

The working language of the conference will be English.
